¢° Dong-A Daily
As the Cliff's concert is coming near, stories about him and the concert are often covered in the Korean media including dailies and TV. Following are two articles that appeared in a whole page of Dong-A Daily, one of the largest daily newspapers in Korea in the last Valentine's Day, Feb. 14. One is an article written based on an interview with Cliff Richard himself, and other written by a well known TV personality and singer, Young-nam Cho.
Hi, Cliff, 34 years has passed!
AGAIN 1969!
Cliff will have a concert here in Seoul again since his his last visit in 1969 in March 7, 2003 which produced the "Cliff syndrome" at that time. Cliff Fan Club(CFC) was founded in 1965 even before his visit which was the first ever fan club for any singers in Korean history. There was a rumor that some female fans threw the undies at the stage during the concerts which made the older generation of our parents so upset at that time. But this was an absolutely wrong information. "Somebody in the audience threw a handkerchief with the laces at the corners to wash his sweat, that was it", said Ms. Kwon & Park, of CFC. Kwon & Park is still operating it and has a website of
www.cliffrichard.co.kr.
Cliff also confirmed through the interview with us done recently through e-mail that he received a lot of presents in Korea, but can't recall any kind of that stuff at all.
The following article is an e-mail interview with Cliff and story of Young-Nam Jo, a Korean pop singer/gospel singer how he remembers Cliff.

¢° Memories of Young-Nam Jo about Cliff
We can see many fans cry and scream during the pop concerts nowadays.
I would like to ask you: Who was the first singer who made the audience cry and shout at the concerts? Jin Nam(Korean most popular singer at that time)? Hoon-A Na? Yong-Pil Jo? Tae-Ji Seo? No. Then Young-Nam Jo? Never!
Then who was he? It was a British pop singer, Cliff Richard coming here soon again in March. He was knighted from the Queen in 1995 that he is a 'sir' which sounds great when it goes before or after his name. Sir Cliff Richard, or Cliff Richard, Sir.
When he sang The Young Ones with his sweet voice, Korea was no longer a country of calmness. It was noisy and loud.
Lots of females didn't care about the pride or the shame for what they were doing. They all shouted and screamed. It was one of the phenomenon the developing country has to import.
We, young at that time, were all ready to greet him. At that time, not many people have the juke box or the turn-tables. We had to rely on the radio or the special places designed to listen to the music, including the coffee shops. The sound wasn't very good at all. But we had no choice and enjoyed that tools.
In coffee shops, the DJ's played lots of Cliff's songs, in anywhere, anytime. His song "Congratulation" could become part of our party songs from then, too. When we hear it sung by another singer, we feel something unnatural, too.
And some of the movies which he was featuring were on the screen at that time, too, that every young woman couldn't help but loving him. And he was coming to them and to us!! Wasn't it fantastic?
It is strange to say but that fever came before the Beatles or Elvis Presley.
In the early 70's, I had a chance to go to the States as a gospel singer with the Billy Graham choirs. And I found that Cliff was already there at the gospel area so firmly. I am 5-6 years younger than him, but still I couldn't help thinking I am following his footsteps. It was amazing to find him there.
Cliff is invited to the Royal family's concerts at the Palace and takes the front seat with Paul McCartney, Elton John and Eric Clapton smiling so brightly like a child.
How coulnd't I be excited that he is coming again after 34 years!!
